Hilliard awarded Gun Sense Candidate distinction
May 10, 2018
Today Marisue Hilliard, candidate for Georgia State Senate District 46, was honored to receive the Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate distinction.
Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is a nonpartisan grassroots movement of Americans fighting for common sense reforms that protect the 2nd Amendment and also make communities safer.
“Georgia has some of the most permissive gun laws in the country,” Hilliard said. “When I’m elected to represent District 46 in the Georgia State Senate, I will work to pass laws that require thorough background checks for all gun sales, ban bump stocks, and keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers.”
More than a year ago, Hilliard joined with Shannon Lawson and Laura Driscoll to start the first local chapter of Moms Demand Action. As a leader of that group, she has worked on
gun violence prevention in the community by presenting the Be SMART program to keep guns out of the hands of children, hosting a candle light vigil for victims and survivors of gun violence, lobbying state and federal legislators for reasonable gun policy reforms, and creating the Georgia Peach Mothers Dream Quilt now on exhibit at the Athens-Clarke County Library.
“Join me in my continued efforts to create a safer Georgia,” she said. “Not one more!”
